A Whole World of Stitching:

September 17-20, 2021

After a very successful Stitch Tui last year, the committee has worked hard to create an even more exciting programme for 2021. This year’s theme sprung from the premise that we will all be unable to travel overseas for some time to come, so we need to bring stitching from round the world here. The result is, 'It’s a whole world of stitching', with a programme of five classes spanning Italy, Japan, India and beyond, the USA and New Zealand.

Each class offers different techniques and stitches, for all levels of competency, so there really is something for everyone.

From Italy, Julie Clemett has designed a stunning piece of Reticella in your choice of classic or contemporary style and colour.

Robyn Burgess brings her love of Japan alive with a class focusing on three Japanese traditions – sashiko, hitomezashi and modern boro.

Jo Dixey meanwhile offers a class designed to unleash your creativity. Using fabrics from India and beyond as your inspiration, you will create your own design then stitch it how you want.

Sue Lucas’s wonderful Terrestrial Globe is a design she has created to replicate those worked by Quaker Girls at Westtown School, Philadelphia between 1780 and 1843.

Last is New Plymouth stitcher Maree Burnnand’s Extinct Splendour, her take on a feather from the extinct Huia bird in either exquisite gold or beautiful black.

Of course, attendees are also welcome to simply come and work on their UFOs, enjoying a weekend-long opportunity to stitch, and carry out a little retail therapy from the attending merchants, in the company of like-minded embroiderers. The location amidst the tranquil bush setting of Tui Ridge adds to ambience.

While Stitch Tui is an initiative of the Waikato/Bay of Plenty regional weekend, anyone is welcome to join us.
