Amarjeet is an artist and educator based in West London. She has been creating for over 40 years and teaching for 30 years. Born in Tanzania, she moved to England in 1967. This background, coupled with her Indian heritage, inspires her work. She loves to explore the idea that textiles hold our stories, stimulates our memories, and expresses our beliefs. Amarjeet looks beyond the purely aesthetic qualities of textiles. Her aim as a tutor is to celebrate tradition yet help others to create a new, relevant contemporary dialogue within their stitched works.

Anne grew up in Wanaka, a wonderful place that started her creative journey. From a young age she developed a passion for drawing and sewing but her embroidery journey really started in 1995 after attending her first Wanaka Embroidery School. Anne has been tutoring for eight years and takes great pleasure in sharing her experiences and knowledge.

Caroline has been stitching since the mid-1990s. A life member of the Hutt Art Society, she joined ANZEG and one of its Extension groups in 2015. Caroline primarily creates original designs, drawing inspiration from the natural world. She has exhibited extensively and is well known for her meticulous attention to detail, as well as her role as editor of Threads.

Heather trained as a Home Economics teacher and spent most of her career working with textiles in Wellington and the Bay of Plenty. During that time she pursued an interest in textile conservation. Heather has tried various types of embroidery, but surface stitchery, canvaswork and pulled thread are her favourites.

Helen is a well-known embroidery tutor from Coromandel, as well as an active member of the local Guild. She loves designing new patterns, stitching and constructing pieces that are not only beauitful, but useful as well. She has shared her skills and love of embroidery with her own guild, Stitch Tui, Conference 2024, The Great Escape, and other North Island guilds.

Jo is a professional hand embroiderer, having trained for three years at the RSN. Alongside teaching various embroidery techniques, she works on commissions for the film and fashion industries, as well as being a celebrated embroidery author. Jo’s work is held in private and public collections in New Zealand and overseas.

Julie has been stitching since she was a child, inspired and taught by generations of talented embroiderers. She is interested in a wide variety of stitching techniques and is always keen to expand on her embroidery knowledge. Kerry’s embroidery journey started as a child with her mother and grandmother. Once she found counted embroidery there was no stopping her. Kerry has tried a host of techniques and found the ones she really loves are counted work and needlelace. For her, the joy is in watching patterns develop and her students’ excitement.

From a traditional stitch background, becoming a member of a UK guild opened Liz’s eyes to the more creative side of embroidery. Attending workshops has developed her strong interest in textile manipulation and dyeing processes. She enjoys the serendipity of these techniques, and sharing her passion for stitch with others.

Maree has always had a love for textiles and fibre, and her further education was in fashion and textile design – but as she matured, embroidery has come to the fore. Her work tends to be very traditional and deceptively simple in its technique, but her modern subject matter often challenges the perception of what embroidery is... or could be.

Maria has been stitching since she was a child and particularly enjoyed all types of surface stitching until the technical beauty of goldwork and silk shading caught her eye and heart. She has a level three City & Guilds qualification and obtained her diploma four years later. Maria is well-known in the Wellington region and also enjoys her work with the Tararua Extensions group.

Melanie has been tutoring since 2016, combining her passion for teaching with a love of creative expression. Most days, she’s surrounded by a joyful array of threads, beads, and other embroidery paraphernalia. Her approach is organic and intuitive, favoring experimentation and fun. She delights in helping others adapt original patterns using their own unique ideas.

Pam has been stitching for as long as she can remember and particularly enjoys using surface stitchery techniques. She started learning more formal embroidery around 10 years ago, and in more recent years has been making kits and teaching classes. Pam enjoys sharing her knowledge with others and has tutored multiple two-day classes since Conference 2024.

Rosie is originally from NZ but lived in the UK until a couple of years ago. She has a Certificate and Diploma in Technical Hand Embroidery from the Royal School of Needlework. After graduating she taught regularly at the Knitting and Stitching Shows around the UK and various other events. She has exhibited at The Broderers Exhibitions, London, in 2022 and 2024.

Shirley has tutored embroidery for over 20 years, as well as on three international cruises. She was ANZEG’s national touring tutor in 2019 and has completed the ANZEG Diploma of Embroidery Teaching. Goldwork and needlelace are two of her specialty techniques, and she enjoys using traditional methods in modern applications.

Sonya is an energetic tutor from Northland. She loves capturing the beauty of natural scenes and animals in her work. Sonya is a flexible tutor who is ready to adapt to her student’s needs so they can learn at their own pace.

Ana is passionate about embroidery, with silk shading and stumpwork being her main focus. Her love of flowers inspires her designs. Ana teaches regular classes at several well know embroidery institutions and guilds within Victoria and has also taught at interstate and international events. She also contributes to embroidery publications and recently published her first book, ‘In Bloom’.

Based in Perth, WA, Ann-Marie is passionate about sharing her love of the myriad patterns that emerge from playing with geometry, colour, and canvas. Dale is a Kiwi girl at heart and was born with knitting needles in her hands. Her true love is fibre and textile art and she has been a full time artist since 1993. She has completed the City & Guilds Stitched Textiles’ level 3 certificate and diploma. This course encouraged her to experiment with both modern and traditional styles, which is what she loves to share with her students.

Susan has enjoyed spending many years exploring the wonderful and diverse world of embroidery and particularly enjoys working on glorious botanical designs inspired by the Elizabethan period, stitched with lustrous silk threads and enhanced with sparkling paillettes. She teaches internationally, has authored two books and works as editor-in-chief at Inspirations Studios.
